2015 Title: Pilates for lower back pain...CONCLUSIONS We did not find any high quality evidence for any of the treatment comparisons, outcomes or follow-up periods investigated. However, there is low to moderate quality evidence that Pilates is more effective than minimal intervention for pain and disability. When Pilates was compared with other exercises we found a small effect for function at intermediate-term follow-up.
2015 Is pilates as effective as conventional pelvic floor muscle exercises in the conservative treatment of post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence? A randomised controlled trial....CONCLUSIONS: The Pilates exercise program proved to be as effective as conventional PFME to speed up continence recovery in PPUI. It also achieved a higher rate of fully continent patients when compared to the control group in the short-term.

2014 Air stacking: effects of Pilates mat exercises on muscle strength and on pulmonary function in patients with cystic fibrosis.....CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that Pilates mat exercises have beneficial effects on respiratory muscle strength in CF patients.

2012 Derivation of a Preliminary Clinical Prediction Rule for Identifying a Subgroup of Patients With Low Back Pain Likely to Benefit From Pilates-Based Exercise.....CONCLUSIONS: These data provide preliminary evidence to suggest that the response to Pilates-based exercise in patients with LBP can be predicted from variables collected from the clinical examination. If subsequently validated in a randomized clinical trial, this prediction rule may be useful to improve clinical decision making in determining which patients are most likely to benefit from Pilates-based exercise.
2012 Changes in gait and balance parameters in elderly subjects attending an 8-week supervised Pilates programme.... CONCLUSIONS: Both anterior-posterior sway decreased along with a improvement in a fall risk index (FRI). Inter-stride variability on the other hand did not change. The results of this study suggest that a short Pilates program may have the potential to improve gait and sway parameters, including those associated with fall risk.

2011 Assessment of resistance torque and resultant muscular force during Pilates hip extension exercise and its implications to prescription and progression..... CONCLUSION: Biomechanic analysis of HE exercises and the evaluation of mechanical features in relation to the hip joint may be used as an objective criteria for the prescription and progression of HE exercise in Pilates.

2010 TITLE: Pilates for Improvement of Muscle Endurance, Flexibility, Balance, and Posture... CONCLUSION:The data showed that the Pilates training group participants were able to perform significantly more sit-ups and push-ups than the control group subjects. The Pilates training group participants were also able to lower their legs closer to zero degrees without lifting their lumbar spine off of a flat surface, indicating greater abdominal endurance and pelvic control than the control group participants.

2006 Pilates-Based Therapeutic Exercise: Effect on Subjects With Nonspecific Chronic Low Back Pain and Functional Disability: A Randomized Controlled Trial.....CONCLUSIONS: The individuals in the specific-exercise-training group reported a significant decrease in LBP and disability, which was maintained over a 12-month follow-up period. Treatment with a modified Pilates-based approach was more efficacious than usual care in a population with chronic, unresolved LBP.
