2019 Pilates exercise focused on ankle movements for improving gait ability in older women..... CONCLUSIONS: Pilates exercise is beneficial exercise to improve gait, muscle strength, and mobility in community-dwelling older women.
2019 Perceived benefits, rationale and preferences of exercises utilized within Pilates group exercise programmes for people with chronic musculoskeletal conditions: A questionnaire of Pilates-trained physiotherapists..... CONCLUSIONS: The study was the first to investigate perceived benefits, rationale and preference for choice of exercise among Pilates-trained physiotherapists. Physiotherapists felt that the Pilates classes facilitated an active lifestyle and self-management approach. They used a combination of exercises in each class to address all the main muscle groups, but some had specific exercise preferences related to the patients' needs. Exercises were linked to evidence around neuromuscular control, direction preference and biomechanical principles.
2019 Effect of Pilates Intervention on Physical Function of Children and Youth: A Systematic Review.....CONCLUSIONS: This is the first systematic review of the effect of Pilates intervention for children and youth. Research is in the preliminary stages; however, Pilates does appear to improve flexibility, strength and postural control, and reduce pain in children with musculoskeletal pathology. Further research is warranted to determine the potential effectiveness of Pilates for children and youth for various population groups and to develop comprehensive treatment guidelines.
2019 Influence of a Pilates exercise program on the quality of life of sedentary elderly people: A randomized clinical trial.....CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that implementation of a Pilates program can improve Quality of life (QOL) of sedentary elderly women.
2019 TITLE:A PRELIMINARY COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF PILATES TRAINING ON PHYSICAL FITNESS OF YOUNG FEMALE VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS...CONCLUSION: our data suggest that Pilates exercises program could be not sufficient to cause signicant improvement in ham-string flexibility and lower limb explosive strength. Future research with rigorous experimental design is needed to assess Pilates effectiveness
2019 TITLE:The effects of Pilates vs. aerobic training on cardiorespiratory fitness, isokinetic muscular strength, body composition, and functional tasks outcomes for individuals who are overweight/obese: a clinical trial...CONCLUSION: Pilates can be used as an alternative physical training method for individuals who are overweight or obese since it promotes significant effects in cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, and performance on functional tests.
2019 The effects of Pilates vs. aerobic training on cardiorespiratory fitness, isokinetic muscular strength, body composition, and functional tasks outcomes for individuals who are overweight/obese: a clinical trial....CONCLUSIONS: Pilates can be used as an alternative physical training method for individuals who are overweight or obese since it promotes significant effects in cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, and performance on functional tests.
2019 TITLE: Pilates for people with multiple sclerosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis... CONCLUSION:Pilates is a feasible therapy for people with MS that can lead to improvements on their physical function, and it might be helpful for reducing self-perceived fatigue. The potential beneficial effects of Pilates are not significantly greater than those derived from the performance of other physical therapies. Further high-quality RCTs are needed to consolidate the existing scientific evidence regarding the impact of Pilates on this population.
2019 Acute Effect of a Single Session of Pilates on Blood Pressure and Cardiac Autonomic Control in Middle-Aged Adults With Hypertension....CONCLUSIONS: Acute BP reduction was concomitant to lowered cardiac parasympathetic activity. Our findings are promising for the use of Pilates as an alternative exercise modality to lower BP.
2019 Effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the modified Pilates method versus aerobic exercise in the treatment of patients with fibromyalgia: protocol for a randomized controlled trial.....DISCUSSION: It is expected that the Pilates exercises will be more effective than aerobic exercises in improving clinical outcomes and that this improvement will be maintained over the medium to long term. This study aims to clarify whether the Pilates method can be incorporated into the clinical practice of physical therapists treating patients with fibromyalgia. The study will also provide information on which exercise will be most cost-effective, information that can be used by insurers and public health systems.
